Picture of Irka and Yanek on Christmas 2006

Here is a picture of Irka and Yanek taking just yesterday on Christmas Day 2006 (according to Yurek.)

A picture of Yanek by himself. He was born in June 1911. I said that Irka was born on August 8, but I was mistaken. It was August 9th according to Yurek's note.

Picture of Irka

Irka was born on August 8, 1919 so she's just a few months older than Bopcha.

Holiday Note from Yurek

I sent Yurek a note responding to his announcement of his son's 14th birthday, mentioning the red of Magdalena's hair, how tall Michael appeared to be, and sending pictures I took during and after the big blizzard. This is what Yurek sent in return. He also sent a bunch of pictures that I'll try to append. I'll also print and send them to Bopcha.

Update from the stormy Pacific Northwest

Greetings all you good people! Bill and Diana were down Friday and Saturday. Bill did some nice chores for me, and we picked up fragments of branches that were strewn (sp?) over the landscape. Saturday we took the Ranger out for a ride across the creek. Mr. Ferris made fire wood out of a down tree in the island and delivered a portion of it to the woodshed. He gives me one-third of his labors. Diana and Bill are home now, because Noah is back from California and Jessica is there also. They will go to church today.

I was at the farm this morning and found two brown eggs in the chicken house. I took them some sunflower seeds. When I came back home I found Sid's message on the answering machine so I made a b-line to the library.

Hello Nina! It was fun to get your message. That Santa Claus was unbelievable! I could not get the audio here at the library, but Santa was sure talking up a storm. I wonder if the r

eindeer ever got a chance to take off. Well, of course, that will b

e TONIGHT!

Love to you all, from Bopcha

Colorado Snow

6PM Wednesday

It is a struggle to keep the drifts from the house exit door. The snow is still coming down hard with constant wind 35mph gusting to 60 plus mph. The snow is drifting in the driveway to over 4 feet. All of the dogs had to be brought inside, including 1 stray that we rescued from the storm. Fortunately we have electricity. All of our roads (24, 84, Curtis) are officially closed and we have not even seen a county snow plow in hours. As soon as the wind and snow subsides tomorrow, we’ll start digging out.

Stormy in Seattle!

Noah and the Redhawks were beating the pants off Hawaii Pacific in Honolulu when the storm hit. Jessica was at work, diligently selling pretty clothes when the wind gusts started bashing trees and power lines. Bill and I? Bill had already gone to bed, and I was trying to find out the Redhawk's score on the internet when it became clear that the storm was going to be every bit as bad as the weatherpersons predicted it would be.

Because we were really scared about Jess driving home at midnight (when the storm was supposed to be at its worst), we rented her a room at the Westin, accross the street from the mall. (Do NOT ask how much it cost!!!!) The expense was well justified, as it turned out. Trees were flying, power lines were draped accross the roads, and a van got toppled over as it attempted to cross the Tacoma Narrows bridge. Our baby, on the other hand, had a good hour and a half of luxurious hotel life before it lost power, too!

Noah had power in his apartment by the time he came home on Saturday morning. Jessica got her power back last night, Sunday, at about 5 or 6 pm. Bill and Diana are still in the dark! And the cold! Luckily, downtown Seattle survived well, and Bill has not missed any work. The power here at my office didn't come back on until Sunday night.

Our headlamps and camping gear has served us well. We have hot coffee in the morning (don't worry, our propane stove is outside), and a fireplace burning at night. It is actually kind of peaceful to huddle near the fire, reading by headlamp. We probably won't get power back for a few more days. The downside of having big trees is that they fall on stuff when the wind blows.

Love,

Dee

Sunday. after the storm

Unbelievable, how the time flies. The storm was about 50 miles per hour. The power was off about two hours at my house, at night mostly, so it wasn't too bad. Diana called this morning and said they may go to Kay's house in Tacoma, because the power has been off there since the storm. KC is on her way home from Oklahoma. No ribbons, this trip. KC said she learned a lot about preparing the dogs for "show". I was at the farm this morning, there are a few broken branches laying around, but the big fir tree I was concerned about, is still standing. I did see some equally huge fir trees tipped over downtown, torn out by the roots.

Much love to all Bopcha

Beautiful Photos

Sid,

The photos you posted are fabulous! However, as Mother pointed out, the hill in the picture of you and the Ranger was way more steep than it looks in the picture. Eeeeeeek!!!!!

We are hosting our annual Seattle area Christmas party on Sunday, December 10. Phyllis and Roy will not be able to make it. Bobbi's dad died, among other things.

Noah played about 4 minutes in the last game. He got a block and two rebounds in that time. It was so much fun seeing him start to show his stuff! The boys leave for Hawaii on the 10th. They will be playing BYU Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific on the following Tuesday and Thursday. The rest of the time will undoubtedly be spent on the beach.

Jessica is working holiday madness hours now. Luckily, she has the day off today so we are going to get our Christmas tree as soon as she wakes up and calls me.

Love,

Dee

The pictures were beautiful Sid. You know, it seemed to me that the hill the Ranger went up was almost vertical.

Such pretty pictures. Love, Bopcha
