Efficiency

I was watching our garbage collector pick up the trash can (an extra large container for grass clippings, etc. ) and the whole trash can dropped onto the truck!! The driver was surprised, but drove off with it and a new one was delivered shortly thereafter.

I would like to confirm your arrival date. Is it May 3 at 9:48 pm?

Now the skunk comes up to eat out of the cat's dish. He leaves a little smell so we will know he has come by. But it was polite when Judi chased it out of the chicken house. I don't think she is willing to pursue it into the 'next town'.

I need to talk to my tax person this morning. She doesn't think I can justify writing off the Ranger.

Looking forward to seeing you both----Love, Bopcha

Why Does Sunday always come too soon

Hello everyone,

I am sitting in bed writing and reading with my laptop in hand. Now that Sid set up the connection, I can use my laptop in every room. We will be out there soon planting away. Sid told me to let Judy know that she is welcome to chase the skunk away to the next town before he gets there so he won't have to do it. That's what brothers are for.

This weekend we have finally had some great weather. It felt like summer actually. No Spring for us here - seems like we often go from cold to really hot weather. Yesterday we went to a talent show that was a community event. We had Nina with us so we looked for something that she would enjoy. There was a little girl and little boy who did the Tango. Both of them were small for their age so they looked amazingly cute as they pranced across the stage. Many of the performances were great - Nina had to keep walking out of the room because the speakers were blasting to a deafening volume. I hope this intolerance for loud music lasts through her teens, although it seems unlikely.

We really look forward to spending time out there. It will be a nice break for us. Actually it will be a break for me because Sid can talk to all of you about Niche instead of talking to me about it. Soon, I think he will actually be giving me assignments like a term paper or something on Niche. Do any of you have any questions about Niche's writings? Sid (by choice) and I (not so much by choice) will probably know the answers.

Hope you are all well. Diana. will be you be in Oregon when we are there? Hope you can make it.

predators!!!!!

Judi came into the chickenhouse at the chickens bedtime and found a skunk inside waiting for his midnight meal. Judi fearlessly booted it out.

The wild flowers in the woods are in bloom. The cherry trees we found have lost their petals. I hope we can find them again.

I'm am really tired after my hour class in weight lifting although I do the bare minimum. The teacher still says I'm "working too hard!"

Isn't it fun hearing about KC. I'm thrilled about her teachers comments. Also, I'm so happy that Nina got A's, expecially in Math. I know that takes EFFORT.

Love from the West Coast------Bopcha

Kudos to KC

Did everyone see this e-mail that was sent to KC by her professor. It is so impressive to have a professor say these things about you. Tom sent this along and I just thought to share it with everyone.

Way to go KC. Sorry, hope you don't mind this appearing for everyone to see. Thanks to Tom for sending it along. See it truly is a talented family - Diana you were right :-)

Nice weekend to all of you.

Love,

Sandra

Brotherly and Sisterly Affection

Hello Everyone

Isn't it lovely to see how affectionately Sid and Diana communicate about each other? It provides entertainment for all of us. Thank you Sid and Diana :-) :-) :-)

Well we got through an another Easter with my chaotic family. Sid must really be entertained by my family, especially when my mother and grandmother are yelling at each other in Italian. I asked my sister yesterday - in the midst of all the activity of Easter - why haven't they made a movie about our family yet? It would be just as funny as the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." I think my sister and I need to start working on that.

The Italian tradition is to cook Lamb on Easter, which we do every year. My sister tried to hide the fact that she was cooking lamb for as long as she could from Nina - because the little girl loves lambs. But then of course the word "lamb" kept slipping out and she just couldn't stand keeping the truth from her daughter. Nina took it just fine. We were all relieved that she didn't go through hours of sobbing like she did with Barbaro's death. I guess she was still so excited about the Easter Bunny's visit to her house. The Easter bunny delivered an Easter basket that she absolutely loved. Yes indeed, my eight year old neice still believes in the Easter bunny. Of course little Alex does as well but he is only five years old. I think it is adorable that Nina still has a place in her heart for the Easter bunny, although I realize it is a bit of a stretch. Actually, I think there is a part of her that really knows this is myth. However, she still surrounds herself with happy thoughts and magic so I think she just doesn't want to let go. She will loose her innocence soon enough. No one wants to rain on her parade, so we let her believe in bunnies! It is nice because she also still chooses to wear very "little girl clothes."

I was impressed by what she choose to put on to go to church. She looked like a child rather than a young girl who is trying to grow up too fast. I know I sound "old-fashioned" and ridiculous, but what is the rush to be like an adult?

I don't think there is much danger of Alex growing up too fast. He is still such a mama's boy and I don't think he will be leaving that world anytime soon. Of course in my unbiased opinion, he is irresistably cute. He is starting to say very funny things. He is currently in preschool and the best comment was his critique of the teacher. He claimed that she is not very smart because "everyday she asks the little kids the same questions: what day is it and what is the weather."

I guess Alex is also getting a little tired of answering these questions. Alex just loves Sid too. Yesterday he insisted on sitting next to Sid at Easter dinner. Of course than lucky Sid got to have this crazy child climbing all over him - without a moment's peace. Fortunately, both Nina and Alex can only stand to be at the table for about three minutes, so the torture did not last too long.

Well I guess I've gone on long enough about Nina and Alex. I just spent two days with them so that is all that has been happening in my world. I am still walking around with cotton in my ear, and feeling absolutely ridiculous. I am tired of cotton! Tomorrow is my post surgery follow up - finally! I have had to limit my physical activity for the past few weeks. I am still experiencing some lightheadness, dizziness etc.... but overall I am doing fine.

Bopcha, I hope all went well with your tests. Sid tells me that you are doing some light weight exercises. That is so awesome. You are an inspiration to all of us.

Well I will close now. I hope all of you are doing great, and I am sure you are all looking forward to nicer weather. It is still really cold here. I am looking forward to being outdoors in Oregon in May. We are all ready to plant.

Take care for now.

Sandra

It is time

Hi Bopcha,

I am afraid the time has come to make the phone call. Diana’s grip on sanity has become weak and tremulous, a botched fit with society. She has adopted delusion to truth finding that it soothes and is easier to grasp. It is with clear conscience that you call the Asylum to inform them that sadly, Diana will be joining them.

It would be a staggering exaggeration to expect that Diana has a semblance of recovery but at least the family as a whole will have less burden mulling her black moods and moral acid.

I admit that it is a painful and tragic spectacle that rises before us: but we must pull back the curtain of our virtues to reveal the rottenness of her soul. I know that one must have experienced it directly and almost succumbed to it, to realize that it is not to be taken lightly. The truth must be taken as such. She will be much happier.

With great sadness

Love Sid

:^)

Why, Mother, Why?

Bopcha, why did you let my good sister leave the country and leave my evil brother here in the U.S? I know he's in Philly, completely across the country, but ever since he heard about airplanes, he seems to find his way back home frequently. How can I cope with that?! I'm going to need extensive therapy to overcome the trauma .... Thank goodness the $10,000 per month we are surrepticiously paying the psychotherapist he thinks is his "girlfriend" has been well spent. She tends to keep his abberrant personality within almost-tolerable boundaries.

Trip 35

Start Time: 8:30 AM

Weather: Rainy

Temperature: 43°

Trail Surface: Saturated

Trail Time (Up/Down/Total): 1:55/0:45/2:40

It was a typical early-spring day for the western slopes of the Cascades:

mild and wet. Despite the rain, there was an abundance of hikers. I opted

for shorts and short sleeves, and was quite comfortable. There was no

wind at the summit.

Some snow remains, but it’s really a non-issue at this point. The trail has

soaked up about all of the water it can hold, though.

I was passed on the way up, at what I refer to as the “second bench,” by

Murray. This was our first meeting, but I hope to run into him again on

the trail. Actually, I did see him again, as I was nearing the summit and he

was heading down. His speed was impressive. (If you’re reading this,

Murray, I salute you!)
