Ooooh, what a sensational picture. Thanks for sharing. Love, Bopcha

Fabulous Pictures

Oh my goodness, more really super pictures!! Looks like Bop shared that photographic gene with all of us!!! I really like the blog. Makes it so easy to share news and pictures. Speaking of sharing, one of our neighbor's here (John West of Cedar Creek) capture a picture of that tornado that came so close to us on 23 July. It's such a great picture, that I thought I'd share it. It's a little off topic, but still a great picture. I was in my landlord's basement at the time, so I missed seeing the tornado although the landlord's son, brave enough to stand on the porch, spotted it. But the photo is by a neighbor. Meanwhile, Bopcha, I'm sure glad that your red eye doesn't represent anything dire--it must look pretty frightening though. I'll be the people at Repak will be making some comments!!

Here's the 23 July tornado, picture by John West of Cedar Creek. Isn't it terrific looking?

Dr. Wirth

The doctor says I am in very good health and the bloodshot eye was probably caused by coughing. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. My blood pressure was 120/80. My vision is OK. So that is my report for today.

Pictures

Sid, those pictures are so beautiful. Judi said the next crop circle should be of our baseball field. I wish we could get an aerial photo. Wouldn't that be something!?

I was wondering what the symbol is for squared. Isn't it a baby two next to the number you want to square. If I knew how to find it on my computer, I would try it out.

Sandra, gorgeous as usual, jogging, shopping, riding, whatever. But what happened to Rossanna?

I'll be glad when baseball season is over--it is on now, drowning out one of my favorite talk shows.

Tomorrow, doctor appointment, getting the garbage out, calling rotorooter to have my stopped up drains here in town

opened up, Wednesday REPAK. Does that sound like an exciting week?

Love, Bopcha

Those were great pictures KC, you have given me the energy to post the rest of the pic's that I had uploaded.

Love Sid

Happy Birthday, KC

The pictures and the narrative is brilliant. Thank you so-o-o-o-o much.

Today I looked in the mirror, ooooooooh my! what a red eye I have. I checked with the Doctor Koski at the Clinic immediate care center, and he said 'not to worry. It happens all the time!' As a matter of accuracy, that was yesterday! Today, as the Doctor predicted, it is still red. I have a checkup tomorrow with Doctor Wirth so I shall look at him with my red eye and see if he is as casual about it.

I didn't see Cousin Roy or Bobby while they were here. They did manage a quick visit with Aunt Martha, a trip to the

Casino at Lincoln City on the coast. and stayed overnight with Judi.

Kurtis and Sophia were here earlier. Kurtis and Sophia stayed a couple of days, went to San Francisco and then back

to Germany.

The PA

8Parsons spent a quick week this summer, it was a delight to see them. I received a letter from Nina yesterday. It is so neat to write to a young person like that.

Today is beautiful. I guess I'll go outside and get some sunshine. Much love Bopcha

Turning 60!!

At 60 years old and one day, Dee decides being the youngest of all the 60 year olds is even more fun that being the oldest of those in their 50s. She happily leaves that chore to brother Sid!!
Seeing as how today, once again, I'm 3 years ahead of Dee, I thought it would be an auspicious moment to capture some of the fun of seeing Dee enter her 7th decade. Here's what my camera caught of that wonderful weekend. Love, KC PS I'm sorry the pictures pixelated so much. They look just fine until I put them onto the blog. Boohoo, but hopefully you can still enjoy.

It's 2 August and 60 years to the day that Bopcha brought a tiny little girl into this world. Friends and family gather at the Bridge to celebrate that moment.

Diana, a little nervous about the end of her 50s, comforted herself with Benton country fair version of the gyros.

The family chef "par'excellance" needed the freshest of produce for Dee's feast, so mother and daughter did some shopping at the local farmer's market.

Bopcha invited everyone to the party, including the local blue jay...

..and Judi invited some other visitors, never seem in Rock Creek before, but welcomed anyway.

The food arrives escorted by three of Dee's sibs in Bop's incredibly useful Polaris Ranger.

Dee tests out her natural athletism as a pitcher...

...as a batter......

...and discovers that she's still as tough as ever, she's still graceful, and best of all, her sense of humor survived the transition to the next decade intact.

Family and friends had to think hard on what single gift they could give Diana that could capture all that she means to them--Sid came up with the idea: an incredibly beautiful guitar. Dee loved it.

Diana isn't the only person rejoicing on this lovely August day, Bopcha celebrates having all her children inside her embrace.

It's almost Friday

Hello all,

We are so glad it's almost Friday. Although I don't know how restful it will be since I have work to worry about. I have got to get ready for a meeting with the Vet School Dean on Monday. I have so much information to convey to her and I have to think about organizing my thoughts into some kind of coherant fashion.

As much as I complain about work, when I hear about Diana's recount of the homeless camp at the church and then the layoffs at Hewlett-Packard, makes me grateful I have a job. Luckily, I don't take things for granted and also realize that being destitute or without a job can certainly happen to anyone. Diana, I am sure that some of those homeless people don't look like they "belong" there, but then again what do you really have to look like to be homeless right?

It sounds like a good effort on your part and hopefully all of these individuals can land on their feet. Diana, perhaps you could interview each one and capture their life stories in a book. It would be a collection of biographys, some of them probably have some very interesting tales to tell. I am just joking Diana, although I am sure you really want to do this, I know you are busy with other activities, especially that of playing the guitar :-)

Again, it was great to see everyone. Hopefully, we can get some more pictures on the blog soon.

I need to get back to getting some more work done. Hope everyone is well.

Fun on Poverty Rock aka Mercy Island

As soon as we got back from the FABULOUS birthday celebration, we launched headfirst into our Church's hosting of Tent City 4 - the 100 homeless person encampment that spends 90 days at various church locations throughout the eastside of Lake Washington. As you can imagine, it created a bit of a ruckus, but people have been mostly very supportive and kind. Not true of the loud and the few, however.

In any event, we have 100 people (men and women - no children) in tents in our parking lot, and they are just the biggest variety of folks you've ever seen. And highly organized too. No alcohol, no violence, no outstanding warrants, no sex offenders etc. etc. They screen all potential residents, require them to follow a code of conduct, and if they mind their manners, they get food and a place to sleep and a safe place to keep their stuff. Also free bus tickets and access to a telephone and a computer.

Volunteers sign up and serve one hot meal a day. We served hot dogs and beans and potato salad (thank you Costco!) one day (not by ourselves, there were about 10 people helping). It was a lot of work and a lot of fun. It cost about $325 to serve everyone. Most of the folks are working or going to school, trying to get back on their feet. Others are getting veteran services or whatever other social services they are entitled to. It won't cure homelessness, but it is a real effort to give some people shelter and food while they continue their struggles. Honestly, you would never ever pick some of these folks to be homeless. Better in a tent than under a bridge. There simply is a real shortage of other types of temporary shelter.

I am practicing my guitar! Parks and Rec is offering an adult beginning guitar class on Monday nights, and since Noah's basketball team now plays on Wednesday nights, I am going to sign up. Betcha I have the best guitar there!

Thanks again for the unforgettable birthday celebration. It will linger in my memory forever and ever.

Love,

Diana

PS I can't believe how much Nina and Alex have grown! Great photos!

Pictures

Thank you for the pictures. They turned out great.

Cousin Roy is coming down today to see Aunt Martha, and will be staying overnight with Judi.

We are gradually getting back into our routine. I will be doing the Gleaners again this Friday, I have a doctor's

appointment Monday for a 3-month checkup.

It has been drizzling so we have my brand new steps covered with plastic so we can get them painted when and if

we have sunshine again.

Once again, I loved the pictures. What nice memories to see them. H-P has started to lay people off but I

don't know just who yet.

Back to the Grind

Hello everyone,

Wow, what a really nice time we had in Oregon. It was so much fun to have a chance to hang out with everyone- all the sisters, Bopcha and Sid. It is always so intersting for me to see everyone together in one place. It seems like the B-day activities worked out so well. It was perfect weather and I also got to witness - first hand - Judy's preparatory efforts. I am not so sure there could be many people who could pull it off to the extent that she did without a "sous chef" so to speak. In the days before the party, Judy was pretty much just buried under pots and all kinds of cooking utensils trying to get it all done. The best part is that she did pull all together. It was really good, as I am sure we all agree.

It was so great to celebrate Diana's b-day and I can't think of nicer person to go all out for.

One of the highlights of the weekend of course was Sid's journey to the Hospital for the bee sting. That was certainly an alarming experience and one that shook us all up for a while. KC was right on top of it and realized immediately that we needed to take Sid's sting very seriously and get him professional help. I think Sid is still having a hard time believing that he may be allergic to bees:0

So if any of you can think of any other event that would give him the medical reaction that he had, I am sure he is glad to hear those opinions. Not sure any of us will be able to figure that one out. Come to think of it, I think we can rule out most other causes, bee or wasp sting is a likely culprit.

I am really looking foward to seeing KC's photos, I am sure they will be spectacular. I wish I had some of KC's photography skills, which would allow me to get some really artistic shots of Oregon. It is such a great place to photograph. I really need to learn to be a better photographer. There is so much to learn. If only we all did not have to work for a living, we could all spend time doing things we really want to do. For example, I am sure Diana would spend every waking moment learning guitar :-)

I will write a little more later.

Best wishes to all!

Sandra

Second Try

I'll try to put the picture of Laika and her Kazan puppies, but my lovely thank you note for the wonderful party will have to be reconstructed tomorrow. The ether ate it. Grrrrrrrrr. (Sorry the image is so large; I can't seem to access the place where I could resize the image.)
Laika getting impatient with her greedy puppies that ignore the kibble for one last sip of milk. Weaning isn't too far away
