Writing on Easter
Hello Everyone,
I know it has been a long time since I wrote in. I thought of logging in and writing so many times, but unfortunately my work has been so all consumming that I just have not had much spare time. I really regret when work overtakes everyhting else in my life. Sid is so patient as I walk through the door late in the evening from work and it takes me three hours to unwind from the insanity of my days. The best part for him is of course when he gets to listen to my crazy stories and woes of work, after his all-consumming days. Without a doubt , work takes up a lot of time and mental energy these days. Are East Coasters more obsessive about work than West Coasters?? It seems to be that way.
Today was a nice Easter with family. In the usual tradition, Nina and Alex were full of energy and played and screamed until we all had headaches, but they are still really adorable, so who can get angry at them
They had a lot of Easter candy - I think that was the excuse today for the hyper behavior. We were at my mother's and she made her homemade lasagna - which is out of this world. It is also our tradition to eat lamb on Easter. Nina - not surprisingly - said she did not want to eat a poor innocent little lamb. When she puts it that way, it's not exactly the most appetizing thing to sit and eat the meat. However, I have to say the lamb was really really tasty. However, after a plate of lasagna, it's difficult to eat anything else, so I barely tasted it. I wish I could say I liked the meat and vegetables part of the dinner better than any starchy dish. But no, I would rather eat lots of lasagna and skip the meat and aspargus/salad etc..... However, I would rather munch on pasta and bread anyday, but I do refrain from gorging on starch because I guess I am following the commonly accepted advice that starchy foods should be limited. Too bad that is the case. If only I could eat pasta every single day.
By the way, have you been hearing news coming in about the earthquake in Italy? The earthquake occurred in L'Aquila which is in the region of Abbruzzo - and that is where we are from. We are all from that region of Italy - on both of my parents' sides. The devastation of that city is overwhelming. It is hard to imagine how they are going to move forward with so many people having lost their homes. Where do you even start to rebuild. I guess they will all have to make due in tent for many months to come. I wish I had the sort of job where I could take some time off and go help. I figure that providing some translating assistance with English speaking workers over there may be somewhat useful. I imagine however that there are multitudes of volunteers working there right now. I know that many people from other parts of Italy have been going to the region to help out.
