Hey family!

I was so sad to leave Greece! But as I was checkÃ„Â±ng Ã„Â±nto my pension, I met an exceptÃ„Â±onal group of AmerÃ„Â±cans -- BonnÃ„Â±e (from CalÃ„Â±fornÃ„Â±a) and a group of her frÃ„Â±ends-- all of whom were workÃ„Â±ng in nearby Izmir as teachers. BonnÃ„Â±e invited me to joÃ„Â±n them and we hung out in the surf (the second tÃ„Â±me Ã„Â±n as many days I went swÃ„Â±mmÃ„Â±ng Ã„Â±n tee shÃ„Â±rt and shorts -- sÃ„Â±gh) and then went to a cool seasÃ„Â±de restaurant for dÃ„Â±nner on the sand. They are a lÃ„Â±vely bunch, and we had a great tÃ„Â±me. BonnÃ„Â±e has Ã„Â±nvÃ„Â±ted me to vÃ„Â±sÃ„Â±t her sometÃ„Â±me Ã„Â±n IzmÃ„Â±r -- so cool! It Ã„Â±s hard to Ã„Â±magÃ„Â±ne a better Ã„Â±nvÃ„Â±tatÃ„Â±on to Turkey!

ThÃ„Â±s mornÃ„Â±ng I boarded a serÃ„Â±es of 3 progressÃ„Â±vely smaller buses and fÃ„Â±nally made Ã„Â±t to a small town Selkuc outsÃ„Â±de the ruÃ„Â±ns of the town of Ephesus. Near my pensÃ„Â±on Ã„Â±s the hÃ„Â±storÃ„Â±cal ruÃ„Â±n (everythÃ„Â±ng here Ã„Â±s hÃ„Â±storÃ„Â±cal) tradÃ„Â±tÃ„Â±onally belÃ„Â±eved to be the orÃ„Â±gÃ„Â±nal burÃ„Â±al place of the Apostle John. AmazÃ„Â±ng! I took lots of pÃ„Â±cs.

There are lots of carpet shops here (no surprÃ„Â±se

) and at every store --carpet and otherwÃ„Â±se -- the shopkeeper Ã„Â±nevÃ„Â±tably asks me to dÃ„Â±nner, drÃ„Â±nks, to hang out, etc. I could have enough dates lÃ„Â±ned up to meet a separate guy every day thÃ„Â±s month! Sweet attentÃ„Â±on, but I thÃ„Â±nk I wÃ„Â±ll start wearÃ„Â±ng my "weddÃ„Â±ng rÃ„Â±ng" to help fend off the more persÃ„Â±stent of the suÃ„Â±tors
