Stormy in Seattle!
Noah and the Redhawks were beating the pants off Hawaii Pacific in Honolulu when the storm hit. Jessica was at work, diligently selling pretty clothes when the wind gusts started bashing trees and power lines. Bill and I? Bill had already gone to bed, and I was trying to find out the Redhawk's score on the internet when it became clear that the storm was going to be every bit as bad as the weatherpersons predicted it would be.
Because we were really scared about Jess driving home at midnight (when the storm was supposed to be at its worst), we rented her a room at the Westin, accross the street from the mall. (Do NOT ask how much it cost!!!!) The expense was well justified, as it turned out. Trees were flying, power lines were draped accross the roads, and a van got toppled over as it attempted to cross the Tacoma Narrows bridge. Our baby, on the other hand, had a good hour and a half of luxurious hotel life before it lost power, too!
Noah had power in his apartment by the time he came home on Saturday morning. Jessica got her power back last night, Sunday, at about 5 or 6 pm. Bill and Diana are still in the dark! And the cold! Luckily, downtown Seattle survived well, and Bill has not missed any work. The power here at my office didn't come back on until Sunday night.
Our headlamps and camping gear has served us well. We have hot coffee in the morning (don't worry, our propane stove is outside), and a fireplace burning at night. It is actually kind of peaceful to huddle near the fire, reading by headlamp. We probably won't get power back for a few more days. The downside of having big trees is that they fall on stuff when the wind blows.
Love,
Dee
