Fence in Progress - photos by Kay

Closer look at the cow lane fence line.
The fence line is mowed, but we will not put the fence in before the property line is surveyed.

This is a photo of the fence along Henkle way.

Tuesday

The last load of logs heads up the loop trail. See how l-o-n-g the logs are? Truck driver Bob is a brave and confident man!

oooops! Bob is stuck!

The cat came to tow the truck, but the chain broke. The next effort worked and the truck made it to the staging area.

Bob gets ready to unload.

Cory from the City leaps to safety - T Rex is right behind him.

Did I forget to tell you that Bob dropped a log on the hood of his truck one day after he bought and painted it?

Pretty Rock Creek with a log placement soon to be erected.

T Rex is faced with a dilemma . . . how to get down the steep bank into Rock Creek?

Monday

Karen and Graham at a log placement.

Sunday

Kay and I marched down this morning and observed two completed placements and saw the third being worked on.

Kay and Steve the fish biologist by the first placement. Kay has a Beaver chomped-on stick.

First log placement.

Kay and Steve at the second log placement.

These are logs ready for placement tomorrow. This is at the far end of the first field below the house.

Saturday log placement

The original route to the first log placement involved a slope too steep for the cat. This route went by one of the houses lived in by one of the water treatment men, onto farm property and then down to Rock Creek.

Right by the water line again!

The cat is down in the stream bed and its long arm is reaching up to grab a log.

The cat wanted to grab a log that was out of reach. Cat driver Graham is pondering the situation.

Steve and son Graham chain up the log that the cat wants to pull down first.

The cat grabs the chain and gets the log of its choice.

Lots of rearranging.

Big day today

My walk with Steve, the fish biologist and two other couples (one couple used to work for the forest service and the other couple was their neighbor - an engineer and a graphic artist) began at the reservoir from whence Corvallis gets much of its water.

After the reservoir, we parked on the watershed road and geared up for our walk in the south fork of Rock Creek. As you can see, Steve had on waders. I at least had water shoes as did the rest of the party.

You can see a fence like barrier on the creek. The City put it there to keep debris from drifting down. Frankly, I can't remember Steve's thoughts on it.

It was really hard work walking up the creek.

So beautiful.

After my exhausting walk, I took the Ranger and then walked to the site where the big logs are being dragged, one by one, to a staging area.

The logs are gently lifted over the water pipe while two City workers, Steve and I watched. It went perfectly. Such delicate work with such big equipment and such huge logs.

This is when the big machine would slide the log safely across the water line and onto a pile.

You can see the log he's pulling behind the big machine.

Each pile represents a particular placement.

Images from the farm on Thursday.

Coming out of the woods loop trail.

Lovely view from the bridge.

I took the Ranger into the woods on the other side of the creek. Before I made it to Griffith Creek, I ran into a major obstruction.

I backed out, drove over the bridge, up the cow lane and down to Rock Creek. I waded across Rock Creek and Griffith Creek and figured out that one or more trees had uprooted and fallen smack in the middle of the road.

We're going to have to exert some effort to remove this roadblock!

End of July 2014 - Cutting of trees around house

Sid, Logger Rick and Bill

Oak trees look beautiful in outline.

Dennis the catskinner.

Rick goes to work on the last Doug fir near the house.

Rick climbs up a tall ladder to secure a cable around the tree. It was then attached to the cat so as to control the fall.

Front of house cleared of apple trees.

House looks so pretty.

Timberrrrrrr....
