Busy Week

The Blakneys have had a busy and eventful week. Noah's little red Corolla bit the dust (Noah hit a Volvo - very minor fender bender and his very first accident after 9 years of driving) and although the Volvo was barely damaged, the front end of the Corolla got squished. The good news is, according to the body shop, that the Corolla was built to cushion the driver from injury and sacrificed itself to save Noah any injury. In fact, nobody was injured - except Noah's psyche.

Anyway, once we got the news that the Corolla was totalled, we discussed options and part of that discussion was to tell JB that if she wanted, she could use this opportunity to buy herself a car rather than continuing to use the family silver Camry. Her eyes lit up, and within an hour of the conversation, dragged her mother to the Toyota dealer and bought herself a used Prius! She had an ample downpayment sitting in the bank, and got primo financing because her credit rating is so high. She now has her own insurance policy, too! One more step toward independence.

Noah is now driving the 2003 Silver Camry and Bill and I are thinking about using the Corolla settlement money to buy a Rav 4. We will keep the 97 Camry that Mother sold us when JB was in college. That way Bill won't be stranded when I go to the farm alone. There truly are silver linings to unexpected disasters!
