News about Haley

I am really sad about Mrs. Hardie, but I have no doubt she's gardening in heaven as I write.

Here's some less sad, but sad, news about Haley. She wrote this in her blog for Seattle U:

OCTOBER 15, 2007

This past week we started the second half of GNAC play.

On Thursday we had a victory at Saint Martins and on Saturday we had a tough loss at Western Oregon. Since we drove to both of the matches, we were able to stop at player’s houses along the way. Thursday we stopped by Emily Powell’s house and her parents provided an amazing pre-game meal for us. Saturday we broke up the long drive to Western Oregon by stopping by my parent’s house for another pre-game meal.

It is always fun for us to stop at each other’s houses. We get to know the families better and it is a great way for us to see the different places we grew up. At my house, the team had a nice laugh at all the baby pictures my parents have hanging on the walls.

I have spent the last 2 weeks of the season a little different than I had intended. I suffered a bad ankle sprain against Western Washington and have not been able to practice since. And this last Friday I got MRI results back that indicated I would need to have micro-fracture surgery on my left knee as soon as possible. Sadly my knee injury has turned out to be season ending. I will have my surgery on October 24th and will be on crutches for 6 weeks.

This is not the way I wanted to end my Junior season but I am trying to take it in strides. I have been spending a lot of time in the training room and it made me realize that we really do have great athletic trainers at Seattle University. Kyle, Mark, and Gwen have helped me so much. They make getting treatment and rehab fun. I don’t know what I would do without them!

So for the rest of the season I will be encouraging my teammates from the sidelines. I’ll be at every practice and every match helping in any way that I can. We have a lot of volleyball left to play and we are looking forward to some action at home this week. Go Redhawks!
