That sounds AWESOME! Hey, if you want to go alone, then that’s what you need. I’ve been on this ship now for three years and a month. If I’ve learned one thing, especially after six straight months with no time off, is you have to get away once in a while. Even the people you love can become burdensome once in a while. It’s not selfish at all! I’m glad you’re taking some time for yourself, that’s really what you need Grandma. Take nothing with you, that’s my recommendation. I mean, take the cell phone for emergencies, but I would leave it off most of the time J

So, my story is, this cruise we came across the pond (the Atlantic) and pulled into Souda Bay for one day, then to Malta for four, then we went to Marmaris, Turkey where I went white water rafting for the first time ever. That was a BLAST, it lasted about three hours (really long river), we got tipped out once, and I ate a few rocks, but it was awesome J Then we went on to the Arabian Gulf, where we spent a few months, went to Bahrain once, Dubai twice, then we headed out to the east coast of Africa, no port stops, then to Bangladesh, where of course we dropped water and food. Then we went back to the Gulf for a little while. We’re on our way out now, we’re already outside of the Suez Canal, so that means we’re on our way home soon enough. Then we stopped in Israel, and we have one more stop before coming home. I have worked more this deployment than I have my entire enlistment. Being that I’m the only technician for three radars has made it tough on me, but like my family has shown me, we work more than eighty percent of the population… I think you would like Spain. I love Spain.

Yes, having the thought of having babies in the family now would be awesome. Personally, I can’t wait to be an Uncle! That’s why I have to get out of the navy and move back home. I want to be there. No more missing graduations, missing birthdays, missing new-borns, marriages, etc… I can happily get out of the service now knowing that I did my time.

I haven’t even heard what movies have come out these past four months. Out here you get detached from everything normal such as that. But, everyone can tell me all about what I’ve missed when I come home.

Well Grandma, like I said, I’m glad you’re taking some time off. I think you don’t take enough time off. I love you, and will talk to you soon.

Love,

Your Grandson

Subject: Reno

I have decided to spend my 65th birthday on a train headed for Reno. I leave Tacoma 1/23 and leave Reno 1/26 and will be staying at the Sands Regency Hotel. I am really excited and I am going to try and prepare a list of things to see (museums, etc.) while I am there. Of course, I will visit the slots but want to do more than gamble. I am going online also to see if there are any live shows that I can afford to see. My neighbor is falling apart that I am going alone. I wouldn't mind her going if she wasn't a constant complainer. Being trapped on a train with her would make me jump off the train and run off into the forest.

I'm really excited to be taking the train and seeing some snow. Yippee.

Let's hope that 2008 is a quiet and good year for all of us. Possibly having babies on the horizon is the most excitement my heart can stand.

I saw the movie "Walk Hard" yesterday. I think male children would enjoy it. I did laugh but it was really dumb. I enjoyed Charlie Wilson's War.

Love you all,
