Railroad Man

Something funny is going on! The railroad man comes about noon, parks, and gets on the train and drives it off. He comes back about one o'clock A.M. or maybe l:30 at times, parks the train engine, gets in his pickup and drives home. Hmmmmm. Something funny. I will have to make a point of meeting him and see what he is up to so late at night. I hear him, like I said, at l:00 in the morning, when he brings the train back.

Turtles make me think of a turtle Diana had. It finally ran away. It used to wander all over the living room at Diana's house, and I guess it must have seen an open door and vamoosed! Good luck to Nina and her pet.

We are looking forward to seeing you! Love, Bopcha

We met with everyone

Hello,

Yesterday we had the pleasure of meeting with Meredith and her folks, and of course we got to see Kay. It was sort of funny seeing Kay out here - one day she is here and next thing she's gone. It was interesting to meet everyone and Meredith is vibrant and so so young. She is only twenty four. She seems to have a bright future ahead of her.

So how is the weather out on the West Coast? Today we got a bit of a break from all the humidity. We also went to my mother's for dinner. She made delicious spare ribs on the grill. It was a real treat.

Nina now has a turtle that she is totally fascinated with. She has been talking out her new turtle continously. I think she really likes it. My sister's house is just crazy, but fun for the kids I suppose.

Hope all of you have a nice weekend and I will write in soon.

Thanks.

Sandra

Seattle University - Where Sports and Academics go hand in hand!

Seattle University Sweeps Academic Titles

Seattle University outpointed three-time defending champion Seattle Pacific to win its first Great Northwest Athletic Conference Academic All-Sports title since winning the title in the GNAC's inaugural season in 2001-02.

The Redhawks, who just completed their first season under athletic director Bill Hogan, posted the best cumulative team GPAs in men's cross country, men's soccer and softball and finished second in volleyball, women's soccer and women's cross country in earning 126 points.

Seattle University also won its first-ever men's and women's academic titles (they finished second in both divisions in 2001-02 when they won their first overall title).

"This honor is an indication of how serious our student-athletes feel about following the mission of Seattle University,” Seattle University Provost Dr. John Eshelman said.

“I congratulate the coaches and athletic staff for helping these young people and the faculty for challenging their students to be the best they can be in the classroom. Most of all, I congratulate the Seattle University student-athletes, as this is a significant reward for their hard work and dedication to their studies."

The Academic all-sports standings are based on the cumulative grade point averages of all the athletes on the official team rosters.

Diana talking:

The article above shows how smart our kids are! Noah's basketball team came in third (out of nine) in the basketball academic race.

We have two of Noah's games to watch tonight! Yea! Something to look forward to besides yard work!

Dee

Mrs. Hardie is home

I am at the Library. The computer at my house is down. Turning it on again does not work this time. We are having a very gentle warm rain and it will sure make the weeds grow. We have cherries available now and apricots and peaches and raspberries and Marion berries at the Farmers Market. The Hermiston water melons haven't come in yet but should soon. They are the elite of watermelons. I enjoyed the picture in the field that Sid posted, but an explanation would have been nice. I can't figure out the purpose of it! I hope this doesn't disappear when I try to post it.

Love, Bopcha

Cute

CERNE ABBAS, England, July 19 (UPI) -- A 180-foot-long drawing of Homer Simpson next to an enormous, sacred carving in Dorset, England, has angered pagans, Sky News reported Wednesday.

The group has vowed to do a little "rain magic" to wash away the cartoon character, which was rendered with biodegradable paint on a hillside next to the famous 17th Century fertility symbol, the Cerne Abbas giant.

The picture of Homer Simpson eating a doughnut was etched alongside the chalk outline of the naked, club-wielding giant as a publicity stunt to promote the upcoming release of "The Simpsons Movie."

Kay and company are on their way

Kay has arrived on the East coast and is threatening to make an appearance this Philadelphia this Thursday. Yahoo!! more victims. We will make sure we have the air conditioning cranked up because it is bound to be toasty!!

I have just finished a major revision to my "Morality is not Objective" Paper (Thank you Diana and Bill for the input.) and now can start on the morality of killing non-combatants in war. I also have a paper on the the "Psychology of the Stock-Market" and a paper on how we are "Wired to Kill." It should be an interesting couple of weeks. Sandra is feeling a wee bit better and that is the news from the home front.

Stiff and Sore!

We moved Jessica yesterday. Even without a lot of furniture, the move took some work. Luckily, Bill had help with the heavy stuff from Whitney's boyfriend, Ross, and Noah.

The new house is very 50s or 60s, and it has a lovely back yard consisting of very little lawn, and big areas of rocks with exotic trees sticking up here and there. I hope Ross' big dog, Lemmy (Chesapeake Bay Retriever) doesn't get the different kinds of rocks all mixed up - there are two types and they are carefully segregated.

Mrs. Hardie is better

I don't know why my other letters were wiped out before I got a chance to save them, but anyway I thought that message was cute. I talked to her this afternoon and she said she would be there two more days. I saw Rita, KC's long time friend today, she recognized me and we chatted awhile, and she gave me her cell phone and asked KC to call her. I got some more cherries (they are soooooo good), and apricots. I am looking forward to seeing my Eastern friends. Love, Bopcha

Mrs. Hardie had a note

on her serving tray that said in big print in Mrs. Hardie's hand writing, "I can sleep anytime, what I want is company!

Friday the 13th

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday I had to do the long drive out to New Bolton Center (Barbaro's special place). I was a bit nervous about having to do that on the 13th. The day turned out better than any day this month. Everything seemed to go smoothly.

Bopcha, I just love your story about the cat inheriting everything. I always thought it would be nice to be a cat, I was right. Oddly enough, if I told that story to my Vet School colleagues, they certainly would think it to be strange but not totally far fetched. I mean we once had a wealthy Texan couple fly their private jet to come and pick up their dead cat in the Vet Hospital so that it could be brought back to its "resting place" in Texas.

Noah is having a rough summer huh! That is so funny - what you described.

Well have fun moving Jessica's clothes today. I guess that is really all you will be moving.

Bye for now. It looks like it's going to be a hot day, but not quite as bad as it has been.

Love,

Sandra

Friday the thirteenth

That is why it happened. I went to pick up Cheryl and turned off the key and could not get the car started again. Cheryl got a neighbor across the street to give me a jump start. It worked, so I drove Cheryl to the Gleaner site and then to the Toyota dealer for a new battery! I didn't realize it was the l3th on a Friday!!!!

Then I took some of the Gleaner's frozen food (veggies)

to the farm as I didn't have room for them here in town. Judi put them in the freezer. There were many baby turkeys at the farm with two

\ mothers as nearly as I could tell. I think Judi said sixteen babies. I don't know why the lines jump.

Much love, Bopcha KC says she has found a place in Omaha where she can keep one of her dogs, hopefully.

Eeeeek! Friday the 13th!

Despite the fact that it is Friday the 13th, the day is going rather well. I finished a brief I have been working on FOREVER, and now I can dig out of all the random paper I've kept on my desk during the process.

This weekend we are helping Jessica move from one house to another house. In theory it shouldn't be too bad, but it probably will be. She has way too many clothes and so we will be wrestling with hangers etc.

We have only caught glimpses of Noah ever since he got wheels. The last time we spotted him he had women in tow and was headed, with keys in hand, toward his little scarlet Corolla. What a life!

Noah's team played two summer league games on Tuesday. It was fun watching Noah on the court. I felt better after seeing him play - it is clear that he can play at that level. He doesn't exactly dominate, but he plays excellent defense, and made a few baskets along the way. The trouble is that EVERYBODY is good and some are even better. Still, he looks comfortable and confident out there. Not to mention handsome. Plus, he took two charges in the first game, much to his coaches' delight!

I hope Mrs. Hardie gets completely well soon. She is an institution in the neighborhood, and I can't imagine anyone else being able to create the lovely garden she always has.

Have a great weekend!

Love,

Dee

Mrs. Hardie

Mrs. Hardie was in the hospital ten days and is now at a nursing home for a few days. I saw her yesterday and she was getting some first class care. I don't know what the problem was. Her daughter was driving by and told me about it.
