Stephanie's love

Mike and his mother. Welcome, Mike!

We are looking forward to having you as part of the family.

Wow o'WOW!!

What a lucky guy Mike Montoya is to catch my lovely, creative, absolutely brilliant niece!!! I was single for 18 years too--and then the right guy came along. Once knows that it is THIS guy that gets the YES!!! Of course Stephanie pictures and a tiny bit more info than your mom shared with us is essential--we are all anxious to meet him and long distance is better than nothing. Love Aunt KC and Uncle Tom

Stephanie Whitfield

My first message did not post.

Stephanie Kay Whitfield is engaged to be married. Mike Montoya belongs to her church and is the son of one of her friends. They have known each other for quite some time and he has passed the inspection of her children.

I think they plan to be married in the fall. Stephanie has been single for 18 years.

Kay's New RV

CONGRATULATIONS Kay!!! What a sweet RV!!!

NICE NICE NICE picture of Jessica and Gavin. Beautiful kids, no question.

Bzzzzzd! Wrong Answer!

The camper is sweet sister Kay's! She emailed me the photo and I posted it.

Gavin's mom had a birthday, and JB and Gavin gave her a photo of themselves as part of their gift to her. Here's the shot I liked. Gavin chose a different one because he thought he looked too pale here. Silly boy.

Jessica and Gavin in front of the dogwood tree.

Oh My, oh my, OH MY!!!

That RV must belong to Dee!!! (Figuring since you posted the picture!!) It looks really super nifty keen, and unlike ours--may even be relatively good on gas!!! Congrats!! Love KC

Guess

Guess which sister is the proud owner of this house-on-wheels?

What? Phone Calls?

I could hardly believe what I read: a phone call? Instead of exchanging hellos via facebook, twitter, a blog, or email? What a concept. Next thing I'll hear are people visiting each other in person!!!

Bagels on a Sunday Morning

Hello everyone,

We just got word from Diana - who so kindly called this morning - to say hello. Diana told us that Murray's bagel place won the taste test. What a nice thing to hear on a Sunday morning. Now all we need is some bagels to eat; it sure would be a fine thing on a Sunday morning.

KC, I told Sid about your book recommendation. He said the concepts in your book sound similar to the book "Murderer Next Door." In fact I think he will be sending that to you, he thinks you would like it.

I love all the photos on the blog. Although I have to admit that the picture of Bopcha and of the Zoiboyz is beautiful but also very sad. The fields at the farm look great. Kay, I am glad your eye surgery went well and it seems that you have recovered nicely.

Anyway, I will try to write a little later about happenings here in Philadelphia. Right now I have to wonder off and go meet with my running partner. I look forward to my Sunday runs with my friend Brunella.

Love to all of you,

I hope everyone is well.

Sandra

Nice News

Great picture of Kay, Judi, and Maryann!! And Kay---no patch on the ol' eyeball? Are you still seeing through bubbles or are you cured?

Sid - have you ever read the book by Richard Dawkins "The Selfish Gene"? It's really very entertaining (like--the entire distance from Indiana to the driveway here at the ranch.) I found it mostly believable and well argued--except Dawkins seemed to avoid answering the fundamental question of human consciousness--not behavior, but awareness. I recall only one sentence dedicated to the topic in the entire read. Of course, its always possible I don't like being thought of as being a "survival machine" for some bit of genetic code!!!

And I loved the news of Stopsky's--just think: Murray might have helped make those bagels!!! It's so fun having a baker in the family.

Maryann comes for a visit!

Maryann and Judith have been friends for more than 50 years! She came all the way from Florida to say hello.

Good Work, Murray!

Stopsky's ranked best bagels by Seattle Metro | Business brief

Seattle Metropolitan Magazine’s online Web site feature, the “Nosh Pit,” recently conducted a blind tasting of bagels at restaurants invited from all around the city.

Mercer Island’s Stopsky’s Delicatessen was awarded the first place winner for their onion bagel.

The critic wrote, “The cooked onion and the wheat flavor made this a sophisticated favorite of the bunch — this tastes like an adult food, it’s so flavorful and interesting. Serious thought is clearly given to its mouthfeel. Texture is lightly chewy on the inside and pleasingly firm on the outside without being tough.”

Stopsky’s is open at 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily, serving breakfast and lunch.

Eye

Apparently whether or not you have to lay face down depends on the type of bubble that is injected into your eye. So, no, I did not have to be on my face but I was not supposed to be on my back in bed or a recliner or bend over. Not bending over is the hardest because it is done to automatically. I am still looking through a glass of water. I think he said it takes about a week for the bubble to dissolve and 3 weeks to actually see. Tiffany is taking good care of me.

Judi and Max are due back at the farm today to continue mowing. So I put on a roast. Me feeding anyone is pretty iffy at best. We are having rhubarb crisp for desert (thanks to Dee).

KC did I mention that Donna Brown has totally disappeared off the face of the earth and according to Rita none of the family knows where she is. I think that happened a few years ago.

KC you really need to come to a Days Creek reunion some year just for kicks. They are a lot of fun and a little depressing (for me) because the people I poked fun at all my life that stayed in the hills have wonderful retirements and their homes are paid for.

I think on Wednesday I will have Tiffany take me home. Not that I don't love the farm but I am missing my hiddy hole. Yesterday Tiff took me back to the house to pick up my mail and hook up my new computer. She said it is working. I am a bit concerned about hooking up the printer but Joe said Jonathan is pretty savy and can walk me through it. Once again, one can only hope.

Looking forward to seeing you all shortly.

Joe and Jonathan bought a new 24 foot RV (I think the length is correct) and they took it to Nevada to see Uncle Dick (Les's brother). Dick battled cancer once and it is back and I think is in hospice. So a lot of the kids and grandkids, Les and Margie headed to Nevada to see him. Mike and Tina were not able to go.

Hooray Kay!!

So happy all went well with the surgery. I thought you would have to be lying face down for a week or so. Isn't that what Dee had to do? Or is this a different kind of situation?

I'm happy to hear that there are geese left. I thought that they might have all been eaten up.

Sending love.

Eye Surgery

Actually have no pain in the eye but when it isn't covered, a bit hard to walk. Looking through the eye is like looking through a diving mask full of water. Once the bubble has dissolved, hopefully my sight will improve.

I am at the farm for a few days recuperating and Tiff will be down on the 9th for several days to help me with the dogs, etc.

Great picture of Judi and horse/dog. Loved the fact that the Blakneys now have a another kitten. They must know how I feel about solitary animals. Everyone needs a friend.

Still have 3 geese as of today. No idea what tomorrow will hold. Also saw one lone Jake running across the field a few minutes ago.
