Happy Halloween

Hello Everyone,

As I am sure you have all heard I am having quite a time this Fall. I am definitely ready for this phase of my life to be over. I am not having fun. Diana, loved that picture of you and Jessica and Noah. All of you look really good in that photo and you can see the family resemblance.

That dream you described is not obvious to me - in terms of its meaning. Do you have a hunch about it? I use to be great at interpreting dreams but I am out of practice because I haven't done it so much :-)

It looks like Fall is starting to settle in on this part of the country. The trees are turning their nice colors, it's rather nice. This is definitely the best time fo the year on the East Coast. The air has chilled quite a bit, we even need a little heat in the house. I guess this is just the begining of what's to come.

I will ponder that dream a bit more, maybe I'll be able to come up with something.

Hope everyone enjoys lots of treats for Halloween.

Love,

Sandra

Dreams

I dreamed about Bopcha and Sid last night. I was walking around the farm with Bopcha and Sid and Bopcha pointed out a big snag (about as big around as circled arms and maybe 30' high with no branches at all) that was swaying in the wind. Bopcha told Sid it needed to come down and would he do it. He agreed, and the next thing we knew Sid choked out a warning and the tree fell -- landing right between Sid and I! I remember seeing it heading toward us and just freezing in place. Sid didn't move either, and neither did Bopcha. I guess we could see it would land safely between us!

Interpretation anyone?

Love,

Dee

PS I worked both Sat. and Sun., so if I seem incoherent, that is probably why. We have a case getting ready to go to trial, and, like a good trooper, I am helping to get it ready. It is actually great work, but pretty intense. My pace at work is usually more leisurely.

From Kay

I went to the doctors for my knee and he thinks it is bursitis and gave

me an steroid injection in the joint. He said give it a couple of weeks

to see if it improves. If it still hurts they can give me another

injection in a couple of weeks or take an x-ray. A resident and another

doctor came in to see how exactly that type of injection should be

given. I, however, sat back and kept my eyes closed.

Still no car so I am hoping that the steroid will reduce the

inflammation enough that I can walk to the bus stop in comfort.

Aren't we cute?

The Blakney family (except for Bill).

News about Haley

I am really sad about Mrs. Hardie, but I have no doubt she's gardening in heaven as I write.

Here's some less sad, but sad, news about Haley. She wrote this in her blog for Seattle U:

OCTOBER 15, 2007

This past week we started the second half of GNAC play.

On Thursday we had a victory at Saint Martins and on Saturday we had a tough loss at Western Oregon. Since we drove to both of the matches, we were able to stop at player’s houses along the way. Thursday we stopped by Emily Powell’s house and her parents provided an amazing pre-game meal for us. Saturday we broke up the long drive to Western Oregon by stopping by my parent’s house for another pre-game meal.

It is always fun for us to stop at each other’s houses. We get to know the families better and it is a great way for us to see the different places we grew up. At my house, the team had a nice laugh at all the baby pictures my parents have hanging on the walls.

I have spent the last 2 weeks of the season a little different than I had intended. I suffered a bad ankle sprain against Western Washington and have not been able to practice since. And this last Friday I got MRI results back that indicated I would need to have micro-fracture surgery on my left knee as soon as possible. Sadly my knee injury has turned out to be season ending. I will have my surgery on October 24th and will be on crutches for 6 weeks.

This is not the way I wanted to end my Junior season but I am trying to take it in strides. I have been spending a lot of time in the training room and it made me realize that we really do have great athletic trainers at Seattle University. Kyle, Mark, and Gwen have helped me so much. They make getting treatment and rehab fun. I don’t know what I would do without them!

So for the rest of the season I will be encouraging my teammates from the sidelines. I’ll be at every practice and every match helping in any way that I can. We have a lot of volleyball left to play and we are looking forward to some action at home this week. Go Redhawks!

Mrs. Hardie died

Mrs. Hardie died yesterday at 10 a.m. She died in the hospital because she had pneumonia. My neighbor, Lizanne, just told me about it a few minutes ago. I will always remember the nice things Mrs. Hardie did for Granny. Lizanne told me Mrs. Hardie will hold hands with a friend of hers that died just a few days ago. A friend of Mrs. Hardie, not Lizanne.

Today was Oregon weather. It was foggy this morning, and a little bit of sun came out for just a few minutes, and then the rest of the day was cloudy.

Yesterday, five railroad engines came down the track and picked up the one engine that was parked by my house. They started the engine and drove away with six engines. Of course, when they were all running they made a lot of noise. I mean a LOT.

Cheryl, Judi's friend, is coming tomorrow and she and Judi are driving to Washington and on up to Canada. I will be at the farm at night to put the chickens to bed. Something I really look forward to. Of course,I will need to come to town to take my exercise class.

Love, Bopcha

What a Picture!!!

Oh my goodness Dee. Bopcha tells me that you actually turned control of your picture over to Sid--bet that's the last time!!! Love KC in Omaha

Hummmmph!

Verrry funny, Sid.

I'm watching the Cal/Beaver game. So far we are doing OK, but it is only the first half. The Beavs have tended to falter in the second half this year.

Noah had a four hour basketball committment this a.m. at 10. We took him to get his driver's license renewed very early this a.m. He said they had weight training first, then open gym, then running, then agilities. He said the coaches are really freaked about playing Kentucky in early November. They are OK with losing, but not with being embarrassed.

JB and Gavin come home tomorrow. I can't wait to hear how the trip went.

Love,

Dee

Nice picture Diana!!

HARHARHAR, Whooooeeee... Now that is a funny Picture Diana! The Roanoke people must be very small indeed!

Love Sid

PS

My chick is alive and well. Thank you

Jessica email from Mazatlan

Thanks mom! By the way...it is really nice here! Our room is huge! We have an ocean view...meaning nothing is in front of us at all, and we would basically land in the sand if we jumped off the balcony. There aren´t that many people here...mostly old people...we´re gonna maybe do some sightseeing tomorrow or the next day. Anway...we are having fun.

Jess

As I may have told some of you, Jess won the trip (not the air fare) at an SU basketball game. The trip also got auctioned off at the SU basketball auction for over $1,000. Gavin bought their air fare. They are leaving Mazatlan on Friday afternoon to go to L.A. to visit Katrina, their friend in medical school.

Jess starts her new job on the 23rd. She'll be working for Aritzia, a Canadian company that is opening two stores in the U.S. in November. She will train in Vancouver, B.C. since her store isn't open yet. It will be in the same mall she works in now. Her career track is Merchandising Manager - the art of display and moving inventory. She didn't really want to stay on the Store Manager track.

Noah is so busy with school, basketball, and work that he hasn't gotten his driver's license renewed yet! We are going to make him do it first thing in the morning on Saturday or else confiscate his car. He still has his GIANT AFRO. I think the coach is going to pressure him into a haircut soon.

All is well here. Sandra, we are HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY that things are looking up.

Sid, too bad your chick got eaten. I had to promise that hawk a position with the Redhawks to get her to snatch it up and eat it. She generally prefers mice.

Love,

Dee

Phillies are out!!

Unfortunately the Phillies collapsed. They lost three games straight!! Rats! Oh well , it was fun while it lasted.

Love Sid

Saturday at the farm

It was a most delightful visit. Judi prepared a splendid breakfast for us all. Bill and Diana went to the football game. Mel was there as OSU was honoring the winning football team of that era, I forget the year, whenever Diana was going to the University. Diana didn't get to talk to him as she was way up in the bleachers.

Since Sandra mentioned the Phillies I have wondered how they are doing. I don't get the news on the Eastern teams unless we have some men that have chosen to

play with them.

We have only six baby chickens now. Coral, Judi's daughter, saw a hawk swoop down and pick one of the babies chickens up and fly away with it.

Love, Bopcha

Coral and Terry at the Farm

Here is a photo of Coral and Terry. We got to see them during our visit to Corvallis this weekend!

Basketball News

The men’s basketball exhibition game between Seattle University and the University of Kentucky set for Saturday, Nov. 3, at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky., will be televised on a tape delay basis by Fox Sports Northwest, announced earlier this week by officials from the sports network.

Due to prior commitments with Pac-10 football, Fox Sports Northwest will be unable to show the game live on Saturday, Nov. 3. The network has agreed to show the contest on Sunday, Nov. 4, at 4 p.m. It is believed to be the first time the Seattle University basketball team has been on a major television network since at least 1980, when the school dropped out of NCAA Division I.

The exhibition game, set up to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1958 NCAA title game between the two schools, will start at 8 p.m. local time (5 p.m. Seattle time) on Saturday, Nov. 3, and will be shown live on Fox Sports Net South as well as the Big Blue Sports Network.

Both teams are coming off 20-win seasons and appearances in their respective NCAA tournaments. Seattle University finished the 2006-07 season with a 20-9 record and defeated Cal Poly Pomona at the Division II West Regional for the school’s first NCAA Tournament victory in 43 years. Kentucky earned a 22-12 record last season, defeating Villanova in the first round of the Division I NCAA Tournament before losing to Kansas in the second round.

The Seattle University men’s basketball team will open practice on October 15 and prepare for the game in Kentucky by facing the Washington Athletic Club men’s team in an exhibition game on Saturday, Oct. 27, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Connolly Center.
