Moving Successful

Kay successfully completed her move! Her doggies were ecstatic to see her.

Congratulations to KC, Tom and team Borzoi! Great weekend (especially considering you had to dodge the snowstorm).

Jessica made enchaladas (spl.) verdes last night (from scratch - a recipe from Cooks Illustrated). Yum! I didn't even know QFC carried tomatillas!

Bill and I are on a two week weight losing diet. We eat meat and get all our carbs from veggies and a little fruit. No grains - we will add whole grains after two weeks. For now, it is meat and green stuff with a little bit of fruit. I'll let you know how it goes.

Kay, please start writing on the blog so we can track your adjustment to farm life.

Love,

Dee

Alternate ending of Emily's song

Will somebody show him what's right and what's wrong

and how to banish his cares with a song

Tell him to look in the mirror and see

his eyes and his smile are reflections of me.

TGIF

Hello,

How true Diana that the week did seem really long. I thought it was Friday about three days ago. Wow Kay, you will soon be an Oregonian again. That sounds really nice. I've actually thought that being from Oregon sounded really cool. I mean just compare it to telling people you are from New Jersey. That is almost something you want to hide :-) I heard in a cafe the other day that

"half of the peope who live in New Jersey don't want to live there and the other half wish they lived somewhere else." Isn't that funny?

So Kay your retirement party sounds wonderful. It is so nice to hear that your long-time employer did that for you and I think we all know that it is well deserved. Knowing you, I'm sure you were a very thoughtful and diligent worker. So you will be around when Sid is working away, I will also be there to "help" Sid. I am imagining that it will be lots of fun with you and I helping him out. Hmmm, we will probably be driving him crazy.

Diana, you are so diligent about writing on the blog. We all appreciate it. It's so nice to have you write in because you really keep it going. Thanks!!!

Bopcha, your poem is very touching - it makes me feel quite emotional.

To all of you dog lovers, I just came across this quote. I know KC will love it and so will Kay of course.

"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." ~Unknown~

T.G.I.F.

For some reason, this week seems long.

Tonight we are all going to dinner at Bennetts, thanks to the gift certificate Gavin's mother gave us for watching Remington, Gavin's cat (it's his cat, but it lives with his mom and dad). It will be a fitting end to Kay's tenure in Seattle.

See you tomorrow, Mother!

A Little Bit of Sunshine

It is so nice to see the sun!

Yesterday Kay cashed in the $100 worth of scratch off tickets Eileen (her former boss) bought her as a going away present. She won $130!!!!!! I think retirement is going to be good for Sister Kay.

Not too much going on - all are healthy and we are looking forward to helping Kay take the last step toward becoming an Oregonian once again!

Love,

Dee

Wednesday is Basketball Day

And it is also Kay's last day at Riddell Williams.

She made out like a bandit (or should I say pirate?) at her going away party yesterday! I'll let her share all the details. It was a very nice way to honor Kay's contribution to the firm. They really made it a big deal. I told Kay I thought part of the purpose was to hold her up as the model of excellence for the other employees. Their speeches went on and on about how they could always count on her no matter what.

Now it is OUR turn to count on her. And she thought life would get easier!!! Just kidding, Kathryn. We will treat you very very well.

Tonight is basketball night, too. Noah and Gavin facing the usual bunch of tough opponents!

I like that last verse, Bopcha. See you Saturday.

Love,

Dee

Third verse

Willl somebody tell him what's right and what's wrong

And teach him to brighten his life with a song

Then when he grows up I'm sure all will see

His eyes and his smile take after me.

Homeless

Yep, I am homeless. Currently I have taken up residence in Noah's room (which is very comfortable). My last day of work is tomorrow. Thursday I am headed back to Tacoma to take Tiff out for lunch and then Saturday the Blakneys and I will be picking up the stuff in Tacoma storage and heading to CV. I most certainly need to go through my stuff that is in storage because I am pretty darn sure I don't need 80% of it.

Bopcha and Judi have nicely agreed to let me stay on the farm until I get my footing and find an affordable apartment that will allow dogs. I am hoping that while I am there to feed the chickens that Judi will take the opportunity to go visit friends without worrying.

I will be available to help Sid however I can with Bop's kitchen. Have been following all the pirate hostage situations quite closely. Waiting to see when all the various countries will band together and stomp the pirates.

Pasta

Jessica made her baked ziti for Easter and it was delish! We brought it, Kay's famous pea salad, and Jessica's homemade coconut cream pie to Easter dinner at the neighbor's house.

Here is a photo of Noah and his friends enjoying the feast:

Writing on Easter

Hello Everyone,

I know it has been a long time since I wrote in. I thought of logging in and writing so many times, but unfortunately my work has been so all consumming that I just have not had much spare time. I really regret when work overtakes everyhting else in my life. Sid is so patient as I walk through the door late in the evening from work and it takes me three hours to unwind from the insanity of my days. The best part for him is of course when he gets to listen to my crazy stories and woes of work, after his all-consumming days. Without a doubt , work takes up a lot of time and mental energy these days. Are East Coasters more obsessive about work than West Coasters?? It seems to be that way.

Today was a nice Easter with family. In the usual tradition, Nina and Alex were full of energy and played and screamed until we all had headaches, but they are still really adorable, so who can get angry at them :-) They had a lot of Easter candy - I think that was the excuse today for the hyper behavior. We were at my mother's and she made her homemade lasagna - which is out of this world. It is also our tradition to eat lamb on Easter. Nina - not surprisingly - said she did not want to eat a poor innocent little lamb. When she puts it that way, it's not exactly the most appetizing thing to sit and eat the meat. However, I have to say the lamb was really really tasty. However, after a plate of lasagna, it's difficult to eat anything else, so I barely tasted it. I wish I could say I liked the meat and vegetables part of the dinner better than any starchy dish. But no, I would rather eat lots of lasagna and skip the meat and aspargus/salad etc..... However, I would rather munch on pasta and bread anyday, but I do refrain from gorging on starch because I guess I am following the commonly accepted advice that starchy foods should be limited. Too bad that is the case. If only I could eat pasta every single day.

By the way, have you been hearing news coming in about the earthquake in Italy? The earthquake occurred in L'Aquila which is in the region of Abbruzzo - and that is where we are from. We are all from that region of Italy - on both of my parents' sides. The devastation of that city is overwhelming. It is hard to imagine how they are going to move forward with so many people having lost their homes. Where do you even start to rebuild. I guess they will all have to make due in tent for many months to come. I wish I had the sort of job where I could take some time off and go help. I figure that providing some translating assistance with English speaking workers over there may be somewhat useful. I imagine however that there are multitudes of volunteers working there right now. I know that many people from other parts of Italy have been going to the region to help out.

I hope everyone is okay and that you all had a good Easter. I hope everyone has an excellent week.

Much love,

Sandra
