Bill and I drove down today and got here early enough to check on the bridge and the loop through the woods. All is well. I took lots of pictures, but left my camera connecter at home so you will have to wait to see how things look.
What great pictures. I checked the bridge at the farm and it is still in place. Rock Creek is really high and Marys River is at flood stage. I had standing water around and under my trailer but most of it disappeared yesterday but it is raining again today so expect some water. Those little cabins that are at the Y outside of Philomath have standing water up to their doors and it looks like the vehicles just might float away.
I am trying to determine whether or not a store run is worth the effort due to standing water. The rivers were supposed to crest last night so I think everything is going down. The rest of you are probably dealing with snow and ice.
Here is a photo of the snowy Dogwood tree on the side of the house. Aspen are the tall ones in the back. A few limbs from the plum tree are on the far left.
Evidently, there's evidence that the decline in the world bees population may be caused by cell phones. Since the farm doesn't have much capability to pick up a cell phone signal, perhaps its possible that bees would thrive there. All we have to do is sow clover so they'll have plenty of nectar to munch on. (or whatever)
KC, that is so heart breaking about Jazz. I am so sorry to hear that. Did you ever actually find his body. Wow, that seems like such a devastating way to go. I am sure you provided a rich and full life for the little guy. I am truly sorry about your loss.
And yes speaking of blood and guts, Nina did say there was blood all over the floor when she watched the surgery. It did not freak her out she said. She was really okay with it and says she could handle it.
Nina and Alex spent New Year's Eve with us. We watched the New Years Eve program on TV and you could see little Alex was getting really tired. But he wanted to be a trooper and kept saying that he did not want to go to bed yet and he wanted to "stay up for New Years Eve" while his little eyes struggled to stay open. When midnight came we cheered him on for staying up. He had this really cute little smile on his face like he was so proud of himself.
He is adorable in my unbiased opinion.
Thanks to all of you for the many wonderful gifts, we really appreciate them. Judy, I have to say that your delicious jam is dangerous, I could go into a sugar coma with the way I eat it.. I have been eating it right out of the jar to satisfy my sweeth tooth. I have opened the strawberry jam and have pretty much devoured it. It is heavenly. I shared a little with Sid, but he definitely let me have the lion's share of it. Your fruit jam is the best.
Oh KC by the way, Sid and I are not the only ones who love the "throws' you sent. Our little cat Zuki has taken quite a liking to them. He spends lots of time on them just reclining and curling up as he enjoys their softeness.
That's it for now. Sid and I are back at work today after a nice break. Yukkie! So hard to be back to responsibility
I wish you all a wonderful New Year - full of wonderful surprises.
I was walking in the pasture, taking pictures of Jazz, his daddy Nitro, Kazan's brother Kiev, and Kazan son, Challenger. Just as I focused on Jazz with the mountains in the background, he suddenly burst into action, racing down the field after a jack. He forced the jack into several turns and then disappeared over the hump of a hill after the jack, the other 'boyz following. He never came back. We believe his faulty heart failed him, causing him to collapse and die at the foot of the pasture. We are heartbroken. Jazz was our first dual-champion (performance and conformation), and was quite the character. He was flame red, bold as brass, and would do anything for food.
Jazz, at the exact moment he saw the jack rabbit. I was snapping as he was trotting nicely with the mountain in the background--suddenly, he was on the move.
Good on you Sandra for giving Nina such a wonderful present!!! Lots of kids want to become a vet, but it's usually a passing phase--especially once one realizes that blood and guts may be involved, not to mention mostly sick animals. Giving her an experience like that, with such a reknown vet--wow, absolutely WOW!!! a BRILLIANT Christmas gift for a pretty special little girl. Love KC
