Monday

Good morning all!

Bopcha and Sid are on the home stretch. What a relief to them. Jess drove down from Portland yesterday and spent the night. She and I will both head back to our respective homes at about ten a.m.

Tory called yesterday evening to say hello. Next weekend she is joining Bill and I as we do some volunteer work for the Special Olympics.

Keep your good thoughts and prayers coming. There are two very weary people here who need them (no, not me and JB!).

Love,

Dee

Great Photo!

I think Sid or Sandra must have taken this great photo of Bopcha and a possum a couple of weeks ago!

I had to share it!

Love,

Diana

Diana in Corvallis

Hello everyone!

Traffic was horrible on my drive down. I left my office on the Island at one p.m. and made it to Bopcha's at a few minutes before eight p.m. Whew!

Mother and Sid are on the home stretch now! They are hanging in there, but are really looking forward to it ending. Sid has amazing cheekbones these days!

Kay and I are going to see Aunt Martha this morning.

Love,

Dee

Friday

Judi and I are joining Sally Ann and Janie at the movies about noon.

I finally managed to find out how the Pichts were related to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Grandma Picht's mother was Mary Longfellow and by tracing her father's line back and then tracing Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's descendants back through his father, the common denominator is William Longfellow II born October 20, 1650 in Horsforth, Guisley, Yorkshire, England and died at sea off Cape Breton on October 31, 1690 (another entry says October 31, 1690 in Anticosti Island) and he left 6 children. Of those six children - Stephen, Anne, Nathan, William, Stephen, Elizabeth (thats right 2 Stephens) we are on the Nathan Longfellow side (born February 5, 1690) and Henry Wadsworth is on the Stephen Longfellow side (born September 22, 1685). It appears our descendant was only a few monbths old when his father died.

You will notice that I am only in the short walk part of the event which means if I am lucky I will get back to the car before Missy Fast Feet.

Friday morning

Sandra, I really enjoyed your cat story. I can so identify! Buster likes to chew on cucumber leaves for some reason. We planted some last week and already they have tell tale chew marks on them! I think he leaves the herb garden alone, but we just planted basil and I haven't checked them lately! Too wet to stroll across the lawn to the raised beds.

I had my first guitar class under our new teacher last night. It was pretty fun, but boy does my left hand feel sore and my fingertips are numb. The teacher had me demonstrate to the whole class how to change chords by moving just one finger and keeping the others in place! Guess he recognized my virtuosity immediately!

I am leaving for Corvallis at about 1 pm, I think. I'll call to let Sid and Bopcha know. It is raining like the dickens, so I anticipate a slow drive down.

Mother, I am bringing the cooler back down.

Love,

Dee

Wish I Could Join You

Hello All,

I just saw Diana's schedule for running this weekend. I really wish I could join you adn Kay. I love running on nice trails. My running is rather lame these days, and Diana I don't know if I could keep up with you. Running an 8K is a lot. You are really treking those miles aren't you?

Have the deer eaten your garden? I hope not. I am trying to plant herbs on our back balcony. It is always a bit of a balancing act to do anything on the back balcony because as soon as you open that back door the cats go storming outside. It is okay for them to be out there but you have to watch everything they do. They first assume their lounging positions on the neighbors side of the balcony. If they think I am going to make them go inside they roll around on the concrete to let me know they are not interested in going back inside. The best part is when start sniffing the neighbors' herbs and even chew at them a little if they are left "unsupervised" by me.

Last week, they were even bold enought o run into our neighbors' condo when they opened the back door to talk to me. They are very curious. I had to lure them back out to the balcony so I could get them back into our condo. They are a handful, but boy are they cute. My favorite is when they stand at their neighbors' glass door and and just watch them - with their cute little faces. Thank God our neighbors are animal lovers or those cats would be in trouble.

So Sid and Bopcha are slowly but surely getting to the end of the fast. Wow what determination! This has to be one of the toughest things anyone can do. It will be wonderful when they are on the other side, and that is right around the corner.

Have a great run Diana - stay strong and I will run a couple of miles with you in mind.

Let me know how it is going.

Love to all,

Sandra

Wednesday

It rained all night and it is still raining this morning. My garden should be thriving! I wanted to check on it this morning, but the grass was too wet and I had my work shoes on.

Today the office folks are taking Adriane, our secretary out after work. She's leaving us for another firm. She is really good and we will miss her like the dickens!

At 7 pm I have a church meeting.

At 8 pm there is a lacrosse play off game at our high school. My boss' son plays, so we will head to that as soon as I escape the church meeting.

Whew! I am so important! Boggles my mind!

Love,

Dee

Tuesday

I walked to work again today, just ahead of the rain, I think.

I will be coming to Corvallis by myself over Memorial Day weekend. I am not sure whether I am coming down on Friday or Saturday. Jessica may join me in Corvallis on Sunday. I will go home Monday or Tuesday.

Can't wait to see everybody!

Love,

Dee

Monday morning

I have my coffee and the cats have been fed. Bill is at the gym and Noah is asleep. The sun is illuminating the tops of the fir trees by my neighbor's house.

I have no excuse. I will walk to work this morning.

Love,

Dee

Sunday Morning

It is wet and grey this morning, so I may not be able to walk to church. Well, I guess I could, but I would look more that a little disheveled if I did. Last Sunday, I came to church directly after the 8K run, so I was in spandex and was very sweaty. Luckily, in this neck of the woods, dress is generally casual anyway. People probably thought that spandex was my every day choice of casual wear. Eeeeeek!

At the workshop yesterday, we learned that the original Methodists asked one another this question at least every week: "So how goes your soul?" The query is intended to make you think of how you felt God's presence in your life during the last week. If someone were to ask me the question today, I would respond that God gave me a brother who so loves our mother that he joined her in a very inconvenient, challenging and difficult journey of healing. I think that is compelling evidence!

Now, Sid, don't let it go to your turnip head.

Love,

Dee

PS I will see you Memorial Day weekend!
