Beautiful Women

Scheesh--pictures of both Dee and Nina make me realize what gorgeous women we have in our extended family. Wow, wow, wow. And Dee took the words right from my mouth--Nina looks elegant in the extreme. But so does Dee in her picture. That's what I call doing the 60th decade right!!! Talk about elegant. My, my, my.

Sid and Sandra--all I can tell you is that I'm GRATEFUL that Bill missed the US. My colonel and I are both hoping (for our own sake, not for anyone else) that we go this season without a single hurricane striking the US--and if we aren't that lucky, then absolutely none coming close to the Gulf States.

Today, we are hosting the borzoi club's fun run and fun show. Borzoi folks from all over Colorado gathering here to show their dogs and then run them for fun---of course, there'll be the club meeting as well. Then tomorrow, we have a whippet racing competition here--and believe it or not, a coursing fun run for all breeds. So, all that said: I guess I'd better start rockin'n rollin'. Have to get 2 hounds washed and groomed, plus I need to wash and groom Ambassador so he can play his role looking like the elegant hound he is.

Oh--and I've calculated out when Tornado and Aramis' pupcicles will be born (if all goes correctly):

D-day 2010. They will be our E-litter (again, should nature cooperate and all goes well).

Judi

Judi is pictured on the front page of the Corvallis G-T for Friday!

Elegant Nina

Nina is so elegant in the photo - she looks like a pre-teen heiress. What a beautiful girl. She is so beyond childhood now ... wow!!!

The Storm is Coming

Hello,

We had threats of a hurricane earlier, but it looks like it has diverted but we may be getting a tremendous storm. The skies look ominous right now. I think many of us are looking forward to a nice refreshing rain, although I am not so sure it will bring cooler temperatures, even if it does descend upon us soon.

It has been really hot and humid and I think Sid is longing for the Oregon weather that he just left behind. He had a really nice time seeing all of you. It certainly would have been nice to make a trip out there, but it has been an extraordinary year in terms of work, etc.... Nina and Alex are still appreciative of their little ventures to Oregon, they talked about having missed it this summer. Bopcha, they have become accustomed to coming out and seeing you every summer and visiting your farm. It is come to be a very special summer activity for them that has been great for their maturity.

Diana, you look so spectacular in your white blouse, I really like it. How neat to gather with friends you worked with in the Easter Seals. How did you find each other? Have you been keeping in touch all these years?

It's finally Friday and I am looking forward to going home and being entertained by our little kitty - who just runs around chasing things that look "imaginary" to me, but I am sure she really sees them - things such as bugs. We will have to attach a good picture of her soon, before she grows up and is not quite as cute. Sorry I am biased to kittens. The photos of course will not be as interesting as KC's photos. KC, your photos are great. By the way, hope Tom had a really nice birthday.

How about Nina in her horse-back riding wear? She is so into the horses, it is one thing that is keeping her attention as she slips into her pre-teen years. She is doing pretty well with her riding.

That's it for now. Hope you are all well.

Easter Seal Reunion

On Wednesday I drove to Portland to meet up with Reba (lives in Portland) and Kathy (flew in from Florida) for brunch. We were kitchen aides together at Camp Easter Seal. Both Reba and I were also counselors together thereafter. It was a wonderful reunion!

Nitro looks fabulous to me!

He looked particularly handsome in that photo .. phooey on those who can't appreciate a red head as much as they should.

Came back from Corvallis on Sunday. We really enjoyed seeing Sid, Bopcha, Judi, Kay and Tiff all at once! We suffered through "G.I. Joe" with Bopcha and Sid. Lots and lots of noise and shooting and brave rescue attempts.

I am so busy this week I want to hide out somewhere and let everything happen without me.

Love,

Dee

Good Day at the Show

What an adventure Kay. Do you know I've never gone about chasing after whales. It sounds exciting. I'd think one would get sea sick. Also, it sounds as though Tiffany had a great party.

Dee - you and Sid sound wonderful, even over the telephone. Pretty remarkable.

I went to a show in northern Colorado this weekend. Yesterday, Nitro placed 3 of 3 hounds in open class and Jazz (Nitro's son) placed 1 of 1 in puppy class, but when he was matched with the winners of the other classes, he didn't place. Boo hoo. I went again today. This time, Nitro placed 1 of 3 in open and when matched against all the male winners, placed 2nd best male (yahoo!!) So that was nice. And then, Breezy, Nitro's daughter won her puppy class, then won over all the other female winners, then won over the best of the male winners, and got beaten only by a champion. She got the title "best opposite sex." So all in all a MUCH better day than yesterday. I wasn't handling the hounds--instead in was Melissa's friend Rebecca. Rebecca is here from Massachusetts and was the one who picked Nitro to be the mother of her Carmen's puppies. We got Jazz instead of a stud fee.

Here's Rebecca showing Nitro (red) and Breezy (mostly white and looks a LOT like her aunt Tornado.

Here is Nitro daughter Breezy, showing the judge how beautifully she moves.

Here's Nitro, standing perfectly for Rebecca as the judge approaches.

Coast

Well I located the street where the famous Corvallis murder happened and it is not far from my mobile home park. However, Tiffany would not let me drive down the street to check it out. I say it was the son and I say that only because I read enough murder stories to go with my gut. Just wait and see.

Tiffany and I went to the Oregon coast on Thursday and came back today. We had great weather and a hotel with a wonderful view of the ocean. Today we took a whale watching boat out of Depoe Bay and watched two grey whales up close. It was as near to a whale as I have ever been on my many whale watching expeditions. We had a great time and tomorrow is the birthday lunch at the farm. We also did the Wax Museum in Newport but since it was pretty dark and I can't see in the dark Tiff had to take my hand and lead me through. The exhibits didn't seem to have as much light on them as they should and I only saw about three. Bopcha kindly babysat the dogs once again. I do not know what I would do without her assistance in this area. They know and love Bopcha and don't bark at her. Both of my antibark collars are broken and I need to get new ones.

KC great picture.

Still don't know the results of Christopher's biopsy since he had to cancel today's appointment.

Wet wet wet

Poor JB and Gavin. It poured yesterday. It cleared up by about 7 pm, but I imagine the chicken farm ground was soaked by then.

Bill and I are all packed up for Corvallis. We will call when we hit the road. We expect to do so at 3 pm.

We are looking forward to Tiff's birthday lunch.

I am bringing my guitar.

Love,

Dee

IPod

I got an IPod for my birthday and JB loaded a couple of books on it so Bill and I can listen to a book on our way down. It should (hopefully) circumvent the frequent problems we have had using CDs (which tend to have areas that skip or won't play).

JB, Gavin and some friends are going camping today. Gavin has never camped outside of his back yard, so he is a little apprehensive. JB is an old hand at camping, so she's bringing lots of gear to make the experience comfortable. They will be camping at somebody's "chicken farm." Hmmmm......

Love,

Dee

Fix it yourself

Sid was trying to get the printer to work. I told him to look in the back--he did--and found a wadded up piece of paper back there.

And I haven't used the washing machine on the back porch since this last winter==I thought it was frozen! And this morning Sid washed some things in it--IT worked!

Love, Bopcha

Hooray for Rain!

Mother, I know you are very, very happy to get some rain. So am I. I was pretty tired of watering our plants every other day. Of course now I am afraid that the lawn will grow and we will have to mow!

Our phone line is on the blitz again. We get so much static/noise that we can't hear anything. This time I called in a repair team (last time the problem cured itself). They are supposed to be out today. It seems to be a problem with the outside line. We followed the troubleshooting guide on the internet and ruled out problems with internal lines, therefore repair should be free. Yea!!!!

The good news is that we repaired our dishwasher ourselves after a week of hand washing. The middle spray arm fell off and (at first) we couldn't find the parts that held it in place. Logic told us the parts should still be in the dishwasher, but we couldn't find them. I ordered parts on line but they were the wrong parts. Bill took one more look and found the original parts lodged under something in the bottom of the dishwasher. Now it is fixed!!!

We are looking forward to our trip to Corvallis. We are leaving at about 3 pm, so we should arrive at 8 pm or so.

Love,

Dee

Is it mid-August already?!?!

KC, I loved the magazine cover photo. You are as talented as you are good looking!

Yeow!!!! Murder in Corvallis? What a wretched way to die. It is hard not to be in favor of capital punishment when you hear of such a horrible crime.

Yesterday I had a deposition and then a court appearance later in the day. The deposition ended early, so I got to court early and went into the courtroom to watch what was going on and to get a feel for the judge. It was a criminal case where the perpetrator was entering a plea to a reduced charge. The young man was brought into the room in cuffs, accompanied by two burly sheriffs, armed to the teeth. It broke my heart to see a young man who had headed himself in such a bad direction. He had dropped out of school after the 10th grade and was being charged with assault, possession of an illegal weapon (gun), domestic violence, and violating a no contact order. He will get 3 to 4 years in prison. His girlfriend wants to see him, but the prosecutor said he could not agree to that (she is the one who had a no contact order out on him). She is also clearly headed in the wrong direction. Sad, sad, sad.

The wedding was fun. The groom seems like a nice guy, and he certainly has a nice family. Some came from Mississippi (Bill and the step-Dad know someone in common), some from Delaware, and some from the Puget Sound area. Andre was a confirmed batchelor (he's 42) until he met Elizabeth.

It was fun watching Tory, Jessica and Tiffany together. They are so cute.

Judi's catfish dish was a HUGE hit. People kept coming back for more ... of course, all of the dishes were gobbled up with enthusiasm. We heard lots of compliments at our table, and the people didn't even know we were related to the cook (since she would NOT let us in her kitchen - a wise choice, I might add).

Bruce was the photographer, and a very enthusiastic one, at that! I got zero pictures, so I hope Bruce shares his.

Bill and I plan to leave for Corvallis on Friday at about 3 p.m. See you soon!

Love,

Dee
